Sale el Sol

"Sale el Sol" is Shakira's ninth studio album, released on October 19, 2010, by Epic Records. Returning to her Latin pop roots after the electropop "She Wolf," the album features three musical directions: romantic, rock and roll, and Latino tropical. It experiments with rock and merengue music. Collaborators include Josh Abraham, El Cata, Gustavo Cerati, John Hill, Lester Mendez, and Residente from Calle 13.

Five singles were released: "Loca," which topped charts in Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the US Billboard Hot Latin Songs; "Rabiosa," which reached the top ten in Austria, Belgium, Italy, and Spain; and other singles that had moderate success in Hispanic regions. Shakira promoted the album with The Sun Comes Out World Tour in late 2010.

"Sale el Sol" is celebrated as Shakira's return to her musical roots, blending rock and pop with heavy influences from Latino and Colombian music. The album is divided into three distinct directions: a romantic side, a rock and roll side, and a Latino tropical side.

Shakira described the romantic direction as a rediscovery of intense and heartfelt themes that had been absent from her music for several years. Songs like "Antes de las Seis" and "Lo Que Más" showcase her emotive vocals over poignant melodies, with the latter featuring piano and strings.

Regarding the rock and roll aspect, Shakira expressed joy in reconnecting with her rock roots after focusing on pop for some time in her career. This direction allows her to explore a different facet of her artistic personality.

"Sale el Sol" showcases Shakira's versatility across various musical genres and influences. The title track blends acoustic guitar-driven alternative rock with Latin pop elements. "Devoción" is a techno-influenced alternative rock song praised for its energy and U2-inspired arena rock vibe. "Tu Boca" is described as sultry and energetic, incorporating influences from new wave music.

The album's Latino and tropical side prominently features merengue music, characterized by accordion and tambora percussion. "Loca" and "Rabiosa" are merengue-influenced dance tracks, with "Loca" incorporating horn-heavy beats and techno dance percussion, while "Rabiosa" is a fast-paced, energetic song. "Addicted to You" blends bilingual lyrics with 70s-style choruses and Copacabana sounds, influenced by reggaeton music.
