Laundry Service

"Laundry Service" is the fifth studio album and first English-language album by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, released globally on November 13, 2001, by Epic Records. Following the success of her fourth studio album "Dónde Están los Ladrones?" in Latin America, Spain, the Middle East, and among the Latin community in the United States, Shakira was encouraged by American singer Gloria Estefan to record songs in English. Initially hesitant, Shakira decided to learn English to write her songs in the language. The album title reflects her views on love and music.
"Laundry Service" was released as "Servicio de Lavandería" in Hispanic regions in January 2002. Primarily a pop rock record, it also experiments with Andean music, dance-pop, Middle Eastern music, rock and roll, and tango. The album's central theme is love and romance, with every song written and produced by Shakira under the guidance of Emilio Estefan

After the success of "Dónde Están los Ladrones?", Gloria Estefan encouraged Shakira to cross over into mainstream pop. Initially hesitant due to English not being her first language, Estefan translated "Ojos Así" to show it could work in English. Shakira, wanting creative control, decided to improve her English to write her own songs. She bought rhyming dictionaries, studied Bob Dylan's lyrics, and took English lessons.
Her first English song, "Objection (Tango)", was inspired after a prayer for inspiration. Shakira set up portable studios in Uruguay to write more songs, often with dictionaries and thesauruses in hand. "Underneath Your Clothes" was a personal love song for her partner at the time. Collaborating with producers like Estefan, Lester Mendez, Luis Fernando Ochoa, and Tim Mitchell, Shakira oversaw every aspect of the album's production, marking a period of heightened creative control for her.
The album "Laundry Service" was released globally on November 13, 2001, in countries such as Australia, France, Italy, Switzerland, and the United States. In Latin American countries like Mexico, it was released as "Servicio de Lavandería" in January 2002. The United Kingdom saw the release of "Laundry Service" on March 11, 2002.
