La Tortura

"La Tortura" is a song by Colombian singer Shakira, featuring Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz, from Shakira's sixth studio album, Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 (2005). The song was written and produced by Shakira, with additional writing and production from longtime collaborators Luis Fernando Ochoa and Lester Mendez, respectively. It was released on 11 April 2005, by Epic Records, as the lead single from the album.

"La Tortura" is a pop, reggaeton, and dancehall track, which lyrically tells the story of a woman who has been emotionally "tortured" because her boyfriend cheated and eventually left her for another, and has now returned begging forgiveness.

The music video for "La Tortura" was directed by Michael Haussman, whom Shakira praised for his sensitivity and positive energy.

Filmed on April 8-12, 2005, in Bay Harbor Island, the video features an art deco setting. Shakira sought advice from a priest regarding her role as Sanz's love interest, despite being engaged to Antonio de la Rúa, and received permission to proceed. She did her own makeup for a natural look and collaborated with Jamie King on the choreography. Shakira described the process of creating and learning the dance moves as challenging.
